How to apply

The application information below summarizes the captured scholarship source. Review the provider page before submitting.

  1. Before proceeding to the application system, check whether you meet the Cartography M.Sc. entry requirements and have your application documents ready. Required
  2. If uncertain whether you qualify for admission, you may contact the programme coordinator. Optional
  3. If you obtained your qualification for postgraduate studies outside Germany, apply for the preliminary documentation (VPD) through uni-assist. Upload the required documents within the uni-assist deadline; choose Technische Universität München and “all degree courses” (“Alle Fächer”), not a specific programme. The listed documents are a degree-certificate copy if available, a transcript copy, and an official translation if the originals are not in German or English. Required
  4. If a VPD is required, send it to TUM as soon as you receive it. Uni-assist document verification is not a TUM application; you must still apply to TUM via TUMonline before the relevant application deadline. Required
  5. Start a TUMonline application, choose English as the default language, create an applicant account, complete the online questionnaire, use the access data sent in a separate email to log in, and complete the application. Select “Second degree” if you already have another Master’s degree, or “Consecutive master program” if applying with a Bachelor’s degree. Required
  6. During the online application, upload the required admission documents. If you cannot access the recommendation letters yourself, the referees may send them directly by email to the programme coordinator. Chinese, Indian and Vietnamese applicants must submit a valid original APS certificate from the relevant German Embassy. Required
  7. Check the application preview for errors before clicking “Send”; the source states that details cannot be corrected after sending. Required
  8. If you want to submit an additional document such as a portfolio, send it as a PDF by email. A portfolio of recent work is highly recommended; the source also allows including its link in the motivation letter and/or CV. Optional
  9. Check the application status in your TUMonline account while TUM evaluates the documents. Required
  10. Take part in the Cartography programme selection committee’s aptitude assessment process. Candidates in the stated score range may be asked to attend an interview; candidates selected for a scholarship might have an additional interview. Required
  11. If admitted, accept the offer in your TUMonline account. The offer can be accepted up until 15 September; if you are waiting for an offer from a preferred programme to which you also applied, the source says to wait before confirming acceptance. Required
  12. To enrol, submit the required enrolment documents to TUM by the course start and check your TUMonline account for any remaining documents. Required
  13. After completed enrolment, transfer the student union fees; the bank-transfer information is available in your TUMonline account. Required
  14. If you need a student visa, make an appointment at the German Embassy as soon as possible. Required
