- Secure a commitment from one or more Harvard faculty members to mentor you and provide office or lab space for the fellowship. Required
- Contact your recommenders in advance. Three reference letters are required, including one from your dissertation adviser; the application system sends the letter requests only after you submit the application. Required
- Complete the online application form and attach your CV with publication list, a detailed research proposal of no more than five pages (references counted separately), and up to three publications or writing samples. Submit by December 1, 2026 at 5 p.m. ET. Required
- After submission, ensure your three recommenders submit their letters through the request link emailed by the application system. They may submit letters through December 11, 2026. Required
- Ask your host to send the required letter of support directly to the program as a PDF or, if necessary, a Word document attached to an email. Hosts may submit their letters through December 11, 2026. Required
