How to apply

The application information below summarizes the captured scholarship source. Review the provider page before submitting.

  1. Choose the advertised PhD project you are applying for and identify its Project ID and lead supervisor; the Project ID is at the bottom of each project advert. Required
  2. Prepare the application documents to attach directly to the email: a separate cover letter addressed to the project supervisor; a document answering the three supplementary questions (why the project interests you and why you are a strong candidate; how you might develop or approach it, about 300–500 words; and how the PhD would contribute to your future research, creative practice or career); an up-to-date CV including your current permanent address; clear degree certificates and transcripts, if available; evidence of settled or pre-settled status, if applicable; and two academic/professional references. For the references, either provide copies or have referees email them directly, including your full name and project; references are ideally received before interview, although the source acknowledges this may not be possible during summer break. If relevant to the project, optionally include a link to a digital portfolio. Required
  3. Submit the application by email to pgrc-studentships@abdn.ac.uk. Use the subject format “Project ID – [Your Name]” (the source gives “NHT_UOA_BH – Joe Bloggs” as an example). In the email body, include the project title, lead supervisor’s name, and whether you are a Home/UK or international student; include no other information in the body. Attach the application documents directly to the email; they may be combined or sent as individual attachments, and files from external sources cannot be downloaded by the recipient. Required
